Having enough liquid, food, and good shoes are the primary ingredients to a good hike. Most of our hikes are in bear country so pepper spray for bears is a must. Also, weather changes rapidly in high country and afternoon storms are frequent, so don’t be caught without a good jacket. If you are stranded, being able to start a fire may keep you alive, so be sure to pack something to start a fire with.
A camera is vital to recording your good times and showing off when you get back. One may even say that a hiking trip is wasted without any proof so always have a camera along. I’m not sure why I included a knife, it won't be any good in a bear fight and good luck chopping wood with it, but it would be a sin against the Boy Scouts and every survival magazine out there not to place it on our list.
